The City of Norwood Young America is a growing community located on the fringe of the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area, approximately 35 miles southwest of Minneapolis in Western Carver County.

It was German immigrants who originally settled the villages of Young America and Norwood.  These immigrants brought their traditions and customs to the rural landscape of what is now Carver County.  The community proudly celebrates its German heritage each year at Minnesota’s oldest festival, Stiftungsfest.

The community has seen steady population growth over the past 10 years.  The current estimate population is 3,626.  The Met Council and State Demographer predict that this number will continue to grow in the years to come.  This is due in part to the city’s location at the nexus of two major highways, US Highway 212, and MN Trunk Highway 5.

As the population of the region has grown, so has the variety of industries, services, and businesses located in the area.  Norwood Young America is a prime location for new businesses and industries, because of its transportation network, which offers quick accessibility to the Interstate highway system in the metro area.

The community is also proud to boast two active rail lines: the Twin Cities and Western Railroad, and the Prairie Line Railroad.  Both offer connections to Class I railroads in the Minneapolis / St. Paul terminal area.

Although situated in an exurban setting, the proximity of Norwood Young America to the Twin Cities’ suburbs has transformed the community into a growing extended suburban locale.  People move to Norwood Young America because it is a community that maintains a rural character, yet it is close enough to the services, additional employment opportunities, and recreational activities available in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area.

The southwestern suburbs are home to many shopping centers, cinemas, and restaurants. There are also ample opportunities for outdoor recreational activities both in and around the City, such as golf courses, hiking trails, hunting and fishing all within easy access to residents.

Norwood Young America takes pride in the community that it has established over the years and looks forward to welcoming new residents and businesses into the future.
